Whenever two teams with elite quarterbacks go head-to-head, the amount of attention paid to the game goes up dramatically. Even though quarterbacks don’t oppose each other directly, there is always pressure put on a quarterback when playing a team with a great quarterback because there will be more pressure to put points on the board knowing the other team will also be scoring.

Here is a look at how Aaron Rodgers has fared in his career when going up against the top quarterbacks in the game today.

Only games in which both quarterbacks played are considered in this ranking. The top quarterback rankings are taken from this article by Gregg Rosenthal.

Playoff games are included in the records listed here.

  1. Aaron Rodgers vs. Tom Brady 1-3-0

Rodgers has gone head-to-head with Brady four times, three in the regular season and once in the 2020 NFC Championship Game.

The Packers only win came in 2014 when the Packers defeated the visiting Patriots at Lambeau Field 26-21. A 45-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers to Jordy Nelson just before the half was the key to that victory.

Brady got revenge in 2018 with the Patriots in a 31-27 game and then again in 2020 when the Bucs overcame an early 10-0 deficit to route the Packers in Tampa 38-10 as Rodgers threw two interceptions in the second quarter including a pick-six.

Brady won again in the 2020 NFC Championship Game in which Rodgers struggled in the first half and Brady in the second.

These two will square off again this season in Tampa during Week 3.

  1. Aaron Rodgers vs Josh Allen 1-0-0

Rodgers and Allen faced each other just once and it came during Allen’s rookie year before he had developed into one of the league’s top quarterbacks.

The Packers blanked the Bills 22-0. The Green Bay defense sacked Allen seven times and intercepted him twice. Buffalo gained only 145 total yards all game. Allen went 16-of-33 for 151 yards.

Rodgers went 22-of-40 for 298 yards and one touchdown while being intercepted once. The touchdown was a three-yard toss to tight end Jimmy Graham.

The next meeting between these two is scheduled for Week 8 in Buffalo.

  1. Aaron Rodgers vs Patrick Mahomes 0-0-0

Rodgers and Mahomes have never met even though the two teams have played each other twice in the last three seasons.

In 2019, Mahomes missed the meeting between the two teams with an injury and he was replaced by Matt Moore in the Packers 31-24 road win.

Last year, Rodgers missed the game when he tested positive for Covid and Jordan Love made his first NFL start in the Packers 13-7 loss in Kansas City. Mahomes didn’t play well in that game either.

These two teams will not meet this season unless it is in the Super Bowl.

  1. Aaron Rodgers vs Joe Burrow 1-0-0

Rodgers faced Burrow and the Bengals for the first time in Week 5 and the Packers emerged with a 25-22 overtime win. The game probably would have ended in regulation but kicker Mason Crosby missed three field goals and an extra point. He kicked the game winner from 49yards out with 1:55 left in OT.

Rodgers finished the game 27-of-39 for 344 yards. He threw two touchdowns and one interception. Burrow was 26-for-38 for 281 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

These two will not meet this season unless the face each other in the Super Bowl.

  1. Aaron Rodgers Vs. Justin Herbert 0-0–0

The Packers and Chargers have not met since Herbert was drafted in 2020. They are not scheduled to meet this season either unless both teams advance to the Super Bowl.

  1. Aaron Rodgers vs Matthew Stafford 13-4-0

Because Stafford played for the Lions for so long, Rodgers and Stafford met twice a year when both were healthy between 2009 and 2020. Stafford faced the Packers with the Rams in 2021.

The two quarterbacks went head-to-head 17 times thus far with the Rodgers and the Packers winning 13 of the 17. One of the wins by the Stafford and the Lions came in the season finale in 2018 when Rodgers left the game early due to a concussion.

Part of the reason the matchup has been so one-sided is the weak Detroit teams Stafford was on over the years.

Twice, Rodgers threw four touchdowns in a game with no interceptions against Stafford-quarterbacked Lions teams. Playing against Stafford seems to bring out the best in Rodgers.

The most memorable matchup between these two came in Week 13 of the 2015 season when Rodgers threw a 61-yard Hail Mary to Richard Rodgers on the game’s final play to give the Packers a dramatic 27-23 win in Detroit.

The Packers and Rams are scheduled to meet in Week 15 this year on Monday Night Football in Green Bay.

  1. Aaron Rodgers vs. Kyler Murray 1-0-0

Rodgers and Murray met for the first time in 2021 although Rodgers was missing his top three receivers due to injuries and Covid. Rodgers went 22-of-37 for just 184 yards and two touchdowns. Murray got off to a slow start and then led a late comeback that fell short when Murray was intercepted in the end zone by Rasul Douglas in the closing seconds of the game.

Murray went 22-for-33 for 274 yards but did not throw a touchdown while tossing two interceptions. The Packers held on for a 24-21 win.

The Cardinals and Packers are not scheduled to meet in the regular season this year.

  1. Aaron Rodgers Vs Dak Prescott 3-1-0

Rodgers has always played well in Dallas including his MVP performance in Super Bowl XLV. His team has won three of the four games when he goes against Dak Prescott’s Cowboys teams.

The most famous was the 2016 Divisional Playoff when the Packers beat the Cowboys in Dallas 34-31. Both quarterbacks played well in that game with Rodgers throwing for 355 yards and two touchdowns while Prescott threw for 302 yards and three touchdowns in a losing effort.

The teams kicked three field goals of 50-yards or more in the closing 1:33 of the fourth quarter with Crosby’s 51-yard kick as time expired clinching the win for the Packers.

The Packers and Cowboys will meet in Week 10 this season at Lambeau Field.
