The 2025 NFL Draft is approaching fast, and the Green Bay Packers have some areas of need to fill. But how do the team’s needs fit with the strengths, weaknesses, and depth of this year’s draft at those positions? We break down how strong the 2025 NFL Draft is at the Packers biggest areas of need.
How Strong Is the 2025 NFL Draft at the Packers Biggest Areas of Need, Number Four: Cornerback
The signing of Nate Hobbs reduced the immediate need at this position a bit, but it is still a position the Packers need to fortify and add some depth at. GM Brian Gutekunst hasn’t traded Jaire Alexander yet, but this may occur during the draft when teams who need a cornerback miss out on key prospects.
There are a handful of elite prospects at cornerback in this year’s draft, but the strength of the draft at this position is on day two, the second and third rounds.
Many experts expect a group of at least four or five cornerbacks to be selected in round two or early in the third round. After that, there is a big drop off at the position for day three.
If the Packers want to acquire a potential starter at corner, they best select one on day one or day two.
Number Three: Wide Receiver
The Packers know Christian Watson will miss at least half of the 2025 campaign as he rehabs from knee surgery. The addition of Mecole Hardman adds a little speed and depth, but he will likely do more on special teams than on offense this season.
The offense still lacks a go-to receiver, and the team has yet to trade for one or sign one in free agency. Unless the Packers use a first-round pick at the position for the first time since 2002, they are unlikely to find a receiver ready to step in and be their number one guy. There aren’t many top guys in this class and the strength of the draft lies in the second and third rounds with one or two possible exceptions.
The 2025 draft class lacks the difference makers at receiver last year’s draft possessed. This leaves the Packers in a bit of a bind at the position.
How Strong Is the 2025 NFL Draft at the Packers Biggest Areas of Need, Number Two: Defensive End
No Packers defensive lineman had more than 7.5 sacks last season and that was DE Rashan Gary. After the Packers traded Preston Smith at midseason, Kingsley Enagbare took over as the other starter with Brenton Cox showing flashes with additional playing time. Lukas Van Ness improved against the run, but has yet to develop into a starting caliber player.
Improving the pass rush is likely the best way to improve the defense this season so look for Gutekunst to make the position a priority.
Traditionally, to get an elite pass rusher, you need to draft one in the first or early second round. The Packers have already had visits with three top prospects at the position in James Pearce, Mykel Williams and Shemar Stewart
Fortunately for the Packers, this year’s class is talented and deep. Gutekunst should be able to add quality players here in the first three rounds and quality depth later in the draft.
Number One: Defensive Tackle
The Packers have big needs at defensive tackle. T.J. Slaton left via free agency. Devonte Wyatt enters the final year of his entry-level deal, and Kenny Clark struggled last season and has a very high cap hit for 2026.
The addition of a defensive tackle could really help the pass rush. Even if an early-round pick doesn’t start right away, there is a need for players who can help here by 2026 for sure.
Because this is a very deep position in this year’s draft, the Packers could add a player in the first three rounds and another on day three. Gutekunst should have many quality players to choose from in the early rounds of this draft at a deep position like defensive tackle.
