The Green Bay Packers have two preseason games left and less than two weeks until cutdown date. Based on where the team is now, here is our Packers 53-man roster projections with two preseason games to go. Obviously, the Pack will place some of the players who don’t make it on the practice squad. The list is subject to change due to injuries and the way the players perform in practice and the final preseason games:
Packers 53 Man Roster Projections with 2 Preseason Game to Go, Quarterbacks: (2) Jordan Love; Michael Pratt
The Packers are set with Jordan Love as the starter. The battle for the backup will come down to the wire with Sean Clifford battling Michael Pratt. Pratt will get the edge with the team trying to stash Clifford on the practice squad.
Running Backs: (3) Josh Jacobs, A.J. Dillon, Emanuel Wilson. IR, MarShawn Lloyd
Josh Jacobs will be the starter. A.J. Dillon gives the team experience and a different running style although he still needs to run with a lower pad level. Emanuel Wilson continues to impress in the preseason with his burst. The Packers will stash rookie MarShawn Lloyd on IR and may activate him when he’s ready.
Wide Receivers: (6) Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Bo Melton, Grant DuBose
The top four are set with Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks guaranteed to make the roster. Bo Melton struggled in the first preseason game, but he’s shown enough in practice to stick on the roster.
The sixth spot is a battle between Malik Heath and Grant DuBose. DuBose has been playing well in preseason and training camp and will edge out Heath for the final spot. There is a chance the Packers will keep seven receivers or make a trade involving a receiver to add a player at another position of need before the season starts.
Packers 53 Man Roster Projections with 2 Preseason Game to Go, Tight End: (4) Luke Musgrave, Tucker Kraft, Tyler Davis, Joel Wilson
Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft will get the bulk of the playing time. The coaching staff loves what Tyler Davis brings to the special teams although he’s never lived up to his potential on offense. Joel Wilson and Ben Sims are in a tough battle for the final spot on the roster. Wilson has been playing well and making plays and will edge out Sims for the final spot.
Offensive Line: (9) Rasheed Walker, Elgton Jenkins, Josh Myers, Jordan Morgan, Zach Tom, Sean Rhyan, Jacob Monk, Kadeem Telfort, Caleb Jones
Rasheed Walker and Elgton Jenkins are set on the left side. Josh Myers will likely be the center with Jordan Morgan and Zach Tom starting on the right side. Sean Rhyan will be the swing interior lineman. Kadeem Telfort and Caleb Jones will be the backup tackles with Jacob Monk adding depth inside. Look for draft pick Travis Glover and undrafted free agent Donovan Jennings to be strong practice squad candidates.
Defensive Ends: (5) Rashan Gary, Preston Smith, Lukas Van Ness, Kingsley Enagbare, Brenton Cox
The top four are locks to make the team with Rashan Gary and Preston Smith projected as the starters and Lukas Van Ness and Kingsley Enagbare rotational players. Brenton Cox continues to flash potential and should be the fifth end on the roster. Keshawn Banks, Deslin Alexandre, and Arron Mosby will battle for spots on the practice squad. Kenneth Odumegwu has an exemption for a practice squad spot.
Packers 53 Man Roster Projections with 2 Preseason Game to Go, Defensive Tackle: (5) Kenny Clark, T.J. Slaton, Devonte Wyatt, Colby Wooden, Karl Brooks
This group remains fairly obvious. Kenny Clark and T.J. Slaton will be the starters in base with Devonte Wyatt replacing Slaton on passing downs. Colby Wooden and Karl Brooks look to earn more time in the rotation in their second season. Jonathan Ford is the favorite to make the practice squad for his run stuffing ability.
Linebackers: (5) Quay Walker, Isaiah McDuffie, Edgerrin Cooper, Ty’Ron Hopper, Eric Wilson
Quay Walker, Isaiah McDuffie and Edgerrin Cooper will likely be the starters although special teams ace Eric Wilson has played well in camp and is trying to earn a starting job. Rookie Ty’Ron Hopper will provide depth.
Cornerbacks: (6) Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes, Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, Corey Ballentine, Kalen King
Jaire Alexander and Eric Stokes look like the starters. Stokes has looked strong at camp after two injury-plagued seasons and his return to form would be huge for the defense. Keisean Nixon will battle for the slot corner spot and may not keep that job. Carrington Valentine and Corey Ballentine provide experienced depth while Kalen King showed enough promise to earn a roster spot.
Packers 53 Man Roster Projections with 2 Preseason Game to Go, Safeties (5): Xavier McKinney, Javon Bullard, Evan Williams, Anthony Johnson, Jr., Kitan Oladapo
Xavier McKinney has looked the part since signing as a big free agent acquisition. Both Javon Bullard and Evan Williams have picked up the defense quickly as rookies and both are fighting for playing time. Bullard could also see action against slot receivers. Anthony Johnson, Jr. looks to build on a solid rookie season while Kitan Oladapo showed promise in camp despite missing time due to injuries.
Special Teams (3): Anders Carlson, Daniel Whelan, Matt Orzech
The Packers are still hoping Anders Carlson wins the kicking competition, but he has yet to show enough consistency to lock down the job. GM Brian Gutekunst may continue to search for another kicker, but Carlson has the best odds of the three kickers now in camp. Daniel Whelan is the only punter on the roster and has continued to punt well in camp after a strong season last year. Matt Orzech suffered through an inconsistent season in 2023 but is the only remaining long snapper on the roster and appears to have the job locked up.
