The Green Bay Packers will start the 2025 season with the youngest roster in the league for the third straight year. After making the playoffs in each of the first two seasons with Jordan Love as the starter, the team hopes to go on a long playoff run this season. Here is a look at the five deepest positions on the Packers roster at the start of this season. Positions with one player on the roster like punter or kicker are not eligible for the list.

Packers Deepest Position, Number Five: Safety

The Packers have three quality starters including one All Pro. Xavier McKinney made eight interceptions last year. By midseason, his strong play prevented defenses from throwing deep downfield out of respect for McKinney’s abilities.

Second-year players Evan Williams and Javon Bullard are both on the upswing. They will both play safety at times while Bullard will also get some snaps in the slot.

Kitan Oladapo and Zayne Anderson provide depth and special teams help. This is a position that has improved significantly over the last two seasons.

Number Four: Quarterback

Love gives the Packers a starter who is recognized as a top 10 quarterback by most scouts. Even those that don’t rank him in the top 10 have him in the top half. Love hopes to stay healthy this season after playing through injuries that hampered him last year.

Malik Willis gives the Packers a backup who can step in and win games. He won both games he started last season and led the Packers to a comeback win when he stepped in late in a third. Willis now has a full year in the system and should be ready to step in if called upon.

The Packers have a strong one-two punch at quarterback heading into 2025.

Packers Deepest Position Number Three: Offensive Tackle

The Packers have three quality starters for two positions here. Rasheed Walker has been a steady presence at left tackle for the past two seasons. He’s entering his contract year and faces stiff competition from 2024 first-round pick Jordan Morgan. Morgan is healthy and appears to be taking a big step forward in his second NFL season.

Zach Tom remains the starting right tackle. He has been the team’s best offensive lineman in each of the last two seasons according to Pro Football Focus. He is undersized but uses great technique and smarts to overcome that. Tom remains consistent and just signed an extension with the team.

Behind the big three, there are questions. Rookie second-round pick Anthony Belton has potential, but his inexperience showed during the preseason. Donovan Jennings and Darian Kinnard provide depth.

Number Two: Running Back

The Packers can go four deep here and even have some talent on the practice squad. Josh Jacobs had one of the best seasons of any running back in Packers history last season, gaining more than 1,300 yards and scoring 15 rushing touchdowns. He runs well between the tackles and has a knack for making people miss tackles in close quarters.

Emanuel Wilson gained more than 500 yards as the backup last season and averaged 4.9-yards per carry. Chris Brooks averaged 5.1-yards per attempt as the third back. In addition to being able to run the ball, he is the team’s best running back at protecting the quarterback, something the coaching staff values.

MarShawn Lloyd will start the season on the injured reserve with a designation to return. If he can stay healthy, the coaching staff is confident Lloyd has the speed and burst to break off long runs. His running style would be a great contrast to Jacobs’. Still, Lloyd has played only one regular season game thus far and needs to show he can stay healthy.

Israel Abanikanda gives the Packers depth on the practice squad.

Packers Deepest Position Number One: Defensive End

The Packers now have elite talent here with the addition of Micah Parsons. He gives the team one of the best pass rushers in the game to go with the depth they have behind him.

Rashan Gary may have never reached 10 sacks in a season, but he provides steady pressure and has improved against the run. The former Michigan star earned Pro Bowl honors for the first time in 2024 and hopes to build on it.

Lukas Van Ness will be in the rotation. The Iowa alum had a strong training camp and hopes to take a third year jump this season.

Brenton Cox recorded four sacks in the final seven games and also seems to be on the upswing. Kingsley Enagbare provides experienced depth. Rookie Barryn Sorrell has potential when he gets healthy and gains more experience.
