The Green Bay Packers head into the 2025 offseason with some important questions to answer. Will they retain Jaire Alexander? Will T.J. Slaton be back? While there are a lot of questions, there are also some areas where the Packers have solid depth and feel confident about their roster heading into the offseason. Here is a look at the Packers deepest positions heading into the 2025 offseason. These rankings do not include players who are scheduled to be unrestricted free agents this offseason as their return is obviously in doubt. The level of the returning players and their importance to the team are taken into consideration.
Packers Deepest Positions Entering 2025: Number Three, Safety
What a difference a year makes. A year ago, safety was considered one of the Packers biggest question marks. Now, it’s one of the deeper positions on the roster heading into the 2025 offseason.
Xavier McKinney earned All Pro honors and was selected to the Pro Bowl. He had eight interceptions and provided the Packers with elite play in the middle of the secondary. By midseason, opposing quarterbacks were hesitant to throw to McKinney’s part of the field.
Rookie Evan Williams stepped in and provided the Packers with another strong starter at safety. The Oregon alum played 13 games and started six. He made one interception and broke-up three passes while making 49 total tackles.
Opposing quarterbacks completed just 56.7 percent of their passes when throwing to receivers covered by Williams and had a quarterback rating of only 77.8.
Fellow rookie Javon Bullard played both safety and slot. Kitan Oladapo also provided depth and has the potential to continue to develop into a quality contributor in 2025.
In one season, safety went from one of the biggest question marks on the roster to one of the deepest positions on the team.
Number Two: Tight End
The Packers have talent and depth at the tight end position. Second-year man Tucker Kraft has developed into a weapon when he runs after the catch. He caught 50 passes for 707 yards and a team leading seven touchdown catches. The South Dakota State product is tough for opposing defenders to bring down one-on-one.
Luke Musgrave has struggled with injuries in each of his two NFL seasons. He only played seven games and caught just seven passes in 2024. He has the potential to provide the Packers with a rare downfield threat at tight end. His combination of size and speed can create mismatches for opposing defenders. He will need to stay healthy next year but if he does, the Packers could have their most dangerous receiving duo at tight end in 30 years.
There is more depth here as third tight end Ben Sims continues to be a steady contributor. He’s used more as a blocker and on special teams. He can also contribute the odd catch and does a good job as a blocker.
Packers Deepest Positions Entering 2025: Number One, Running Back
The Packers running back room became the deepest position on the team in 2024. The return of young, injured players could make it even more dangerous in 2025.
GM Brian Gutekunst signed Josh Jacobs as a free agent a year ago. The former Raiders star gained 1,329 yards on the ground and ran for 15 touchdowns. He became the centerpiece of the Packers offense and was the team’s offensive MVP in 2024.
Jacobs excels at running between the tackles. He can make tacklers miss in close quarters and gain extra yards after contact.
Backup Emanuel Wilson provides a solid change of pace. He gained 502 yards on 103 carries for a 4.9-yard average per attempt.
Chris Brooks provides the Packers with reliable pass protection. He gained 183 yards rushing on 36 carries for a 5.1-yard average.
The Packers also have 2024 third-round pick MarShawn Lloyd returning in 2025. Injuries limited Lloyd to one game during his rookie campaign. He gained 15 yards on six carries and caught one pass for three yards.
The Packers are excited by Lloyd’s speed and cutback ability. They hope to see a lot more of him in 2025.
