The Green Bay Packers claimed cornerback Trevon Diggs off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday. That gives Green Bay some more depth at cornerback for the regular season finale in Minnesota and for the playoffs. This is a low risk, high reward by Packers GM Brian Gutekunst who is always looking to improve his roster. Since Nate Hobbs continues to struggle with injuries this season, Diggs is a logical addition. Here are 10 things you may not know about new Packers cornerback Trevon Diggs:
Ten Things You May Not Know About Packers CB Trevon Diggs, Number One: Why He Was Let Go
The Cowboys waived Diggs on Tuesday after he reportedly remained back in Washington after Christmas despite the fact that the team denied him permission. That was apparently the final straw in a deteriorating relationship between the cornerback and the Cowboys.
The Packers claimed him off waivers and will now have his services for the rest of this season. If the team wants to retain his services for next year, they will likely restructure his contract.
Number Two: Diggs Is Close Friends with Micah Parsons
Diggs and Micah Parsons were teammates for four seasons in Dallas and they are good friends. Parsons’ presence on the Green Bay roster may help the Packers re-sign Diggs if they want to bring him back in 2026.
Ten Things You May Not Know About Packers CB Trevon Diggs, Number Three: He Led the NFL in Interceptions
Diggs enjoyed a magical 2021 season with the Cowboys. He led the NFL with 11 interceptions which he returned for a league-high 142 yards. He ran two of those interceptions back for touchdowns.
Diggs earned All Pro honors that year and Pro Bowl honors in 2021 and 2022.
Diggs gives the Packers a ballhawk at cornerback, something they badly need. Keep in mind, the team’s top three corners this season, Keisean Nixon, Hobbs, and Carrington Valentine, have combined for one interception all season.
Number Four: Diggs Suffered a Major Injury
Diggs suffered a torn ACL on his left knee early in the 2023 season. He played only two games and then missed the rest of the year.
Since that injury, his performance has not quite been the same. He made two interceptions in 2024 in 11 games and didn’t intercept any passes in eight games this season.
He also spent time on injured reserve this season after suffering a concussion.

Diggs has other connections to the Packers besides Parsons. He was teammates was Xavier McKinney at Alabama. Packers passing game coordinator Derrick Ansley helped recruit him to the Crimson Tide.
Diggs also has the same agents as Parsons, McKinney, and Jordan Love. All of them are represented by David Mulugheta of Athletes First.
Number Six: Diggs Played Both Ways in High School
Diggs played high school football at The Avalon School in Wheaton, Maryland. While there, he played both wide receiver and cornerback.
As a receiver, Diggs enjoyed 1,000 yard receiving seasons as a junior and a senior.

Diggs’ first career interception came against the Eagles during his rookie season. In fact, he had two picks in that game. Both of them came against Carson Wentz in a game the Cowboys lost 23-9.
Number Eight: Diggs Is Not Known as a Good Run Defender
Diggs has never been considered a good run defender. His Pro Football Focus grades against the run have never been good. This year, he is near the bottom of PFF’s run defender grades for cornerbacks. It will be likely defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley will inset Diggs into the lineup only in obvious passing situations.

In his career, Diggs has returned two interceptions for touchdowns. Both came during his outstanding 2021 season. The first came in Week 3 against the Eagles when he intercepted Jalen Hurts and returned it 59 yards for a score.
The second came three weeks later against the Patriots. Diggs intercepted New England’s Mac Jones and returned that interception 42 yards for a touchdown.
Number Ten: Family
Diggs comes from an NFL family. His older brother, Stefon Diggs, plays wide receiver for the New England Patriots. Stefon earned Pro Bowl honors four times during his career. He has also played for the Vikings, Bills and Texans.
