The Green Bay Packers are set to open training camp later this month. This is the first in a series of articles previewing the Packers position by position, analyzing the talent on the roster and discussing key questions that are facing the team as they begin preparation for the 2026 season. Today we will examine the quarterback position. We will examine another position each day until the start of training camp. Here are three big questions facing the Green Bay Packers at quarterback entering training camp in 2026:

Three Big Questions Facing the Packers at Quarterback, Number One: Will Jordan Love Step Up?
Jordan Love has earned more respect this offseason and is now considered a top 10 quarterback in the league by most experts. However, to truly solidify his standing as a top quarterback, he needs to deliver some late game wins and perhaps even a series of playoff wins to truly become elite.
Last season, Love threw for 3,381 yards and 23 touchdowns while throwing just six interceptions. His quarterback rating was 101.2. The team went 9-5-1 in the 15 games Love started in 2025.
This will be Love’s fourth season as the team’s starting quarterback. He has led the team to the playoffs in all three seasons, but always as the seventh seed. He has a 1-3 record in playoff games.
With the team now more experienced around him and a set group of top receivers, it’s time for the offense to go beyond efficient and effective to dynamic and dangerous.
Love needs to take that next step forward as a leader and big game player to make 2026 a successful season for both him and the team as a whole. He also needs to stay healthy as a result of having a different backup quarterback.
Number Two: Can Tyrod Taylor Get the Job Done?
Malik Willis served as the Packers QB2 the last two seasons and gave the Packers one of the best backup quarterbacks in the NFL. Willis had the ability to step onto the field and give his team a chance to win.
Willis signed with the Dolphins as a free agent, so the Packers added veteran Tyrod Taylor to back up Love in 2026.
Taylor will be entering his 16th NFL season in 2026. He started for three seasons with the Bills from 2015-2017 and earned Pro Bowl honors after his first season as the starter. Since then, he’s been a consistent, steady back up option. The Packers will be his eighth NFL team.
Taylor gives the Packers a reliable backup, but he lacks the dynamism Willis brought to the table. Taylor will turn 37 in August but remains mobile enough to at least evade the rush. He also has a decent arm and can make the throws required of an NFL quarterback.
The Packers hope he doesn’t have to start many games this season, but his job is to give the team a chance to win if he has to take the field.
Three Big Questions Facing the Packers at Quarterback, Number One: Who Will be the 3rd Quarterback?
Barring injury, the top two quarterback spots are set for 2026. The Packers will keep a developmental quarterback on the practice squad. Right now, the two candidates are Kyle McCord and Kyron Drones.
McCord was a sixth-round pick of the Eagles in 2025 and spent last season on their practice squad. The Packers signed him as a free agent in late January. The Syracuse alum hopes to prove he can be an NFL quarterback and stick with the Packers as their developmental QB.
He has good size at 6’3” and a strong arm. He lacks the athleticism to be a dangerous running quarterback which is something the Packers have come to value thanks to Willis.
Drones went undrafted this year after finishing his college career at Virginia Tech. He is a dangerous runner and ran for more than 800 yards and five touchdowns in 2023 in college. Drones has a strong arm but needs to improve his footwork and has to reduce his tendency to hold the ball too long in the pocket.
The battle for the developmental quarterback spot will be the biggest roster battle at the quarterback position in training camp.
