The NFL announced the Pro Bowl teams on Tuesday and only one Green Bay Packers player was named to the NFC squad. Ironically, that was Micah Parsons, who will not be able to participate in the Pro Bowl Games because he is out for the season with a torn ACL. While the Pro Bowl Games themselves remain more or less meaningless, the honor and prestige of being named one of the best remains for the players. So, what does the lack of Pro Bowl selections say about the 2025 Green Bay Packers?

What the Lack of Pro Selections Says about the 2025 Packers: The Snubs

Jordan Love deserved to go to the Pro Bowl. The Packers starting quarterback has a 101.2 quarterback rating which puts him third among NFC qualified signal callers. Only Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff have a better rating than Love.

Somehow, Sam Darnold and Dak Prescott made it ahead of Love. Prescott may be the more surprising as he ranks sixth in the NFC in quarterback rating and his team has a losing record. Prescott does lead the league in attempts and completions and has thrown five more touchdowns than Love although Love has a slightly higher touchdown percentage. Darnold has thrown twice as many interceptions as Love and really shouldn’t have been ahead of him in the voting.

Xavier McKinney also deserved serious consideration. McKinney earned All Pro honors last year after signing with the Packers as a free agent. Pro Football Focus rates McKinney as one of the top five safeties in the league. He remains a player opposing quarterbacks are reluctant to challenge because of how well he plays centerfield.

While McKinney has played well, there is one big reason he wasn’t named to the Pro Bowl team this year. In 2024, the former Alabama star was second in the league with eight interceptions. This season, he has only two. In addition, McKinney dropped at least three potential interceptions in recent games. McKinney’s lack of interceptions is the biggest reason he was snubbed for the Pro Bowl team despite being one of the best safeties in the NFL again this season.

Punter Daniel Whelan is tied for the NFC lead in average yards per punt with 51.3. Kicking in the cold of Green Bay in November and December makes Whelan’s performance even more impressive, but he was not named to the Pro Bowl.

The Biggest Reason for the Lack of Pro Bowl Selections

Injuries are the biggest reason more Packers failed to make the Pro Bowl roster. All NFL teams have to deal with injuries, but this team has had more injuries to their best players than most clubs.

There are two categories of injured players. Those that were lost for the season or missed significant time, and those who missed just enough games due to nagging injuries that prevented players from reaching Pro Bowl status.

The Packers lost tight end Tucker Kraft to a season-ending injury at the halfway point of the year. Kraft was playing at a Pro Bowl pace when he was injured. He had established himself as one of the best tight ends in the game, but the injury ended his season prematurely.

Running back Josh Jacobs gained more than 1,300 yards on the ground a year ago but a knee injury has slowed him down. Jacobs still has more than 900 yards rushing with two games remaining, but the injuries kept him from having elite numbers this season.

Zach Tom remains the team’s best offensive lineman. The starting right tackle has missed several games due to assorted injuries and was limited in others. That hampered his chances of making the NFC Pro Bowl team.

What the Lack of Pro Selections Says about the 2025 Packers: The Bottom Line

Ultimately, the Packers possess plenty of talented players but not enough who played at an elite level. You could make a good case for Love and Whelan and maybe McKinney, but their absence is not outrageous.

GM Brian Gutekunst assembled a talented roster with few major weaknesses. Still, a combination of injuries, disappointing seasons, and a failure to dominate ultimately left the Packers with just one Pro Bowl player in 2025. Next season, the team hopes to do better. The talent is there but they need to stay healthy, and their performance has to match their potential.
